Dexter Girls’ Tennis Headed to D2 State Finals

Make it four straight trips to the D2 state finals for the Dexter girls tennis team after a second-place finish at the Regional hosted by the Dreadnaughts Thursday.

While it wasn’t the fourth straight regional title the Dreads were hoping for, Dexter was able to clip South Lyon by one point to earn the second spot and qualified for the Finals in Grand Rapids May 31 and Jun 1.

Third-ranked Farmington Hills Mercy won the title with 28 points, with the Dreadnaughts finishing with 19, just one point ahead of South Lyon with 18.

Dexter reached the finals in three flights and reached the semifinals in the other five. All eight flights picked up at least one win.

Julia Berkholtz and Claire Beneteau picked up a pair of wins to reach the finals at three doubles. They battled until the end and dropped a three-set match in the finals 5-7, 6-3, 0-6.

Raegen Kopitsch and Amelia Baglio won two matches before falling in the finals at two doubles.

Brynlee Williams won two matches in four singles before bowing out in the finals.

Also picking up wins and dropping their semifinal matches were Charlotte Bruderly, Claudia Vanover, and Siena Taylor in singes, while doubles teams of Josie Alabre and Tessa Baughman, and Cameron Boyce and Phoebe Matos each won a match.
