The Dexter boys’ lacrosse team dropped out of first place in the SEC White after a heartbreaking 10-9 double overtime loss to Pinckney Tuesday night.
Dexter took control early with a 4-1 lead and built a 6-3 lead at halftime, but the Pirates rallied in the second half.
The Dreadnaughts led 9-8 with just over a minute remaining, but the Pirates tied it up to send the game into overtime.
Neither team scored in a great defensive overtime period, but Pinckney ended it with a goal in the second overtime for the 10-9 final.
The loss drops the Dreadnaughts into second place in the SEC White. They will need help with a Tecumseh loss for a spot at their third straight league title.
Nico Willard had three goals for the Dreads, while Dawson Waddington and Benny Willard had a goal and two assists each. Jeremy Schroeder made six saves in net for Dexter.
The Dreadnaughts bounced back with a 13-9 win over rival Chelsea Wednesday night.
Benny Willard had a big night with four goals and three assists to lead the Dreads.
Nico Willard had three goals and Marty Watson two goals and an assist. Owen Bibby added two goals. William Simpson had a goal and two assist and Waddington a goal and assist. Schroeder made 12 saves in net for Dexter.
Dexter improved to 10-3 overall on the season.
