The Dexter city council, in a 4-3 vote at their August 12 meeting, released the funds necessary for the purchase of the MAVD property at Dexter-Ann Arbor and Meadowview.
During the last council meeting, the motion was made to move forward with the August closing of the MAC property. With staff needing to make the payment for the property before the next council meeting, a motion to authorize the payment and to state where the funds were coming from was necessary.
With the DDA taking over substation payments, city staff recommended using those funds ($67,224), funds restricted for facilities ($294,074), and the unrestricted reserve ($678,160), in that order, to make the approximately $514,000 payment.
If council wants to have the possibility of retaining some of those funds used to purchase the property reimbursed through a future bond, a resolution stating so would have to be adopted within 60 days of closing on the property, something council member Zach Michels said he would like to do.
Mayor Shawn Keough and council members Scott Bell and Donna Fischer voted against releasing the funds.
