Dexter Rotary Club Recognizes High School Seniors

From Quaila Pant

Each year, the Dexter Rotary Club sponsors several college scholarships for Dexter high school seniors.  This year, the Rotary Club awarded scholarships to five Dexter Dreadnaught students during the annual Senior Honors Program that took place June 8 at the Center for Performing Arts.  Scholarships ranged from $1,000 to $2,000.

The $2,000 scholarship, known as the “James Brady Scholarship,” was presented to Avontay Madison who plans on attending Washtenaw Community College this fall to study in a field leading to a career in forensic science.

Other awardees included Rose Bellefleure, Nick Richter, Brianne Lloyd, and Marissa Bryant.   Each of these students plans to attend Washtenaw Community College.

These scholarships are more than a simple cash award.  Each scholarship represents a commitment from the Rotary Club to that students’ attainment of a postsecondary education degree.  Awardees are eligible for future tuition assistance, as well as professional development and mentorship, along their higher education journey.

Congratulations to these deserving students.
