With districts just over a week away, the Dexter girls’ soccer team picked up likely its biggest win of the season last week when the Dreadnaughts rallied for a 2-1 win over Ann Arbor Pioneer.
The win evened the Dreads record at 7-7-2 record on the season with a schedule that was mostly D1 opponents. Dexter will be playing in the D2 district at Chelsea after the Memorial Day break.
Pioneer took a 1-0 lead in the first half and held on to the lead into the second half.
With just under 25 minutes left, Laci Jernigan took a pass in the middle of the field, turned to her left and launched a shot from 30 yards out that found the corner of the net to tie the game at 1-1.
Pioneer continued to pressure and continued to have its forwards push up field and it cost them in the end.
With just over a minute remaining in the game the Pioneer goalie took a deep ball by the Dreadnaughts. The Pioneer forwards had pressed up field and the clearing kick by Pioneer goaltender was intercepted by Jernigan. She launched a shot into the wide-open net that had been vacated by the goaltender and gave Dexter 2-1 lead with 1:03 left.
Dexter would run out the clock and take the 2-1 win to finish 1-2 in the SEC Red round robin.
