Dexter Softball Cruises by Ypsilanti in Doubleheader

The Dexter softball team cruised to a pair of easy wins over Ypsilanti crushing the Grizzlies 17-0 and 16-1 Monday.

The Dreadnaughts pounded out 27 hits in the two games, while pitchers Paige Sayler, Brenna Cassidy, and Stephanie McClendon combined to allow just three Ypsilanti hits on the night.

The Dreads scored 11 runs in the third inning to blow the game wide open.

Lillie Robeson had three hits and two RBI to lead the offense, while Alexis Haley had to hits and five RBI. Livvy Mellifont had two hits and three RBI, Emma Sortor two hits and two RBI, and Kristy Maitland two hits and one RBI. McClendon added two hits and Jenna Wagenschutz a hit and RBI. Sayler struck out eight for the win in the circle.

The Dreads scored seven times in the second and seven in the fifth as they finished the rout.

The big blow of the game was a grand slam by Sam Sutton.

Maebel Robeson had three hits and two RBI, Emily Lance two hits and two RBI, and McClendon a hit and three RBI. Kylee Niswonger finished with two hits, while Sortor, Haley, and Jona Ossenich each had a hit and RBI. Cassidy and McClendon combined for seven strikeouts on the mound for Dexter.

The Dreadnaughts improved to 6-7 overall on the season.
