The Dexter varsity softball team opened the 2019 season with a doubleheader sweep of Jackson Monday, April 8.
The Dreadnaughts blew away the Vikings 16-4 and 12-0 to go to 2-0 on the young season.
Sam Sutton tripled in a run and scored on an Emily Sortor double to give the Dreads a 2-0 lead after one.
They added a run in the second and four runs in the third and fourth innings to take an 11-3 lead.
The put the game away with five runs in the sixth to finish off the mercy.
Kylee Niswonger led the Dreadnaughts with three hits and two RBI, including an
Sortor and Taylor Wilson finished with two hits and an RBI, while Lillie Robeson had two hits and three runs scored. Jenna Wagenschutz had a hit and three RBI, while Kristy Maitland and Mack Gordon had a hit and two RBI each. Sutton and Brenna Cassidy combined to strike out 11 and allow two hits.
Dexter scored five in the first, three in the second, and four in the third to take a commanding 12-0 lead and cruised to the win.
Paige Sayler allowed three hits and struck out six for the win. Sutton led the offense with two hits and three RBI, while Sayler added two hits and two RBI. Gordon had a hit and two RBI, while Livvy Mellifont and Wagenschutz each had a hit and two RBI.
