Dexter Swim and Dive Second at Spartan Invite

The Dexter mens‘ swim and dive team continued to show why it is a top contender to go for its fourth straight Division 2 state title after a strong second place finish at Battle Creek Lakeview’s SpartanInvitational Saturday, January 5.

The invitational features nine state ranked teams, eight of which are ranked in Division 2.

Dexter finished with 361 points, falling just short of Division 1 seventh ranked Saline with 420.

The Dreadnaughts beat out D-2 second ranked Birmingham Groves with 316 and 8th ranked Grosse Pointe South with 262.

Dexter opened the meet with a 1st place finish in the 200 medley relay when Clayton Kinnard, Paul Schaefer, Nik Eberly, and Tanner Sharp picked up the win.

Eberly picked up a pair of wins in the 50 free and 100 fly. He set meet records in both events and the 100 fly time was a Lakeview pool record.

Dexter’s other victory came in the 100 free by Casey Dolen.

Second place finishes went to Dolen in the 200 free, Kinnard in the 200 IM, the 200 free relay of Dolen, Nathan Norris, Luke Sayler, and Sharp; and the 400 free relay team of Eberly, Sayler, Kinnard, and Dolen.

Schaefer swam a state quaifying time in the 500 free and finished third, while Sharp was third in the 100 breast.
