Dexter Volleyball Advances to District Title Game

The Dexter Dreadnaught Girls Volleyball team (31-11) rolled to the division one district title game on Nov. 1 after defeating Ann Arbor Huron in straight sets, 25-21, 25-10, 25-13, on Halloween.

The Dreads pulled out a close first set. First, they jumped out a to a 4-0 lead, with an ace forcing a Huron timeout. Huron scored four straight after the timeout to tie the game and then the teams traded points to tie at six. Dexter earned a small lead 15-10 before Huron fought back.



After being tied at 17, the Dreads went on a 5-1 run to take a 22-18 lead. Senior Taylor Venuto had three kills and senior Abby Herman had an ace. Dexter won the set, 25-21 on a kill from junior Quinn LaFontaine.

In the second set, Dexter came out strong and never trailed. First, a Venuto kill forced a timeout leading 6-2 early.

Another Huron timeout was taken after a 12-6 run following the initial Huron timeout. Dexter won 25-10 on a block from Venuto.

Dexter took the third set 25-13 after Huron took an initial timeout trailing 15-9. Dexter outscored Huron after that timeout 10-4 for the sweep, with the game point coming on an ace from Herman.

Seniors Brooklyn Brown (11) and Venuto (16) led the team in kills. Beth Ankenbaur had 19 assists to lead the team, and sophomore Livvy Melifont led the team in digs with 16.

Dexter advances to play Ann Arbor Skyline tomorrow at Saline High School at 7 p.m.
