The Dexter volleyball team saw its season come to an end at the Division 1 District Finals at Saline Thursday night falling to Ann Arbor Skyline 3-0.
The Dreadnaughts were looking for their first district title since 2001, but it wasn’t meant to be as a strong Skyline team was too much for them falling 25-20, 25-23, 25-14.
Dexter fell behind 24-15 in the first but rallied for five straight points to cut the lead to 24-20, but a serve into the net ended the set.
Skyline came out strong in the second jumping to a 13-4 lead, but the Dreads would rally behind the serving of Beth Ankenbauer and Abby Herman to tie the score at 16.
The teams traded points were tied at 19 apiece when the Eagles scored three straight to make it 22-19 and force a Dreadnaught timeout. Dexter again rallied to cut the lead to 24-23, but Skyline ended the set with a kill to take a 2-0 lead.
That rally and late loss in the second set took the wind out of the sails of the Dreads. Skyline took an 11-5 lead and after a Dexter timeout, the lead would grow to 21-9 and Skyline would close out the set and take the title.
The Dreadnaughts finished the season with a 33-12 overall record.
