Dexter Volleyball Sweeps Chelsea to Claim Second Straight SEC White Title

After a hard-fought first set the Dexter volleyball team took control and swept past rival Chelsea in straight sets 25-23, 25-18, 25-18.

In the annual Volley for the Cure Dig Pink game between the two, the school’s student sections turned out in force and the Chelsea gym was loud and raucous throughout the match.

The team went back and forth in the first set when a huge call changed the momentum. Chelsea appeared to take a 21-20 lead in the first set, but after the whistle the line judge ruled that the ball had gone outside the net post, therefore out of play, giving the point to Dexter.

The Bulldogs bounced back to tie it at 22, but Deter pulled it out with a kill by Brooklyn Brown.

The second set saw Dexter jump out to an early lead that would grow to nine points. The Bulldogs would battle back to cut it to three 18-15, but again Dexter answered with two points to force a timeout and then closed out the set with a Taylor Venuto ace.

The third set saw Dexter again jump out to an early lead. Chelsea once again fought back and cut the lead to one 15-14, but Dexter rattled off five straight points to take control 20-14. The lead grew to 23-15 before the Dreadnaught closed it out with an Abby Herman kill.

The SEC title was the second straight for the Dreadnaughts as both teams will begin district action next week
