As one of the favorites to reach the state finals, the Dexter water polo team rolled to a district title at Ann Arbor Huron this weekend.
The Dreadnaughts defeated Ann Arbor Pioneer 11-7 in the championship Saturday to claim the title.
Dexter jumped to a quick 4-1 lead after one period, but Pioneer held tough as Dexter led 5-2 at the break.
The teams played evenly in the third with each scoring three goals as Dexter led 8-5.
The Dreadnaughts outscored Pioneer 3-2 in the final period to put the game away.
Sam Sterlitz led Dexter with four goals, while Leo Varitek, Luke Sayler, and Mitchell Sterlitz scored two goals each. Paul Schaefer added one goal, while Jack Blodgett had three assists. Tony Golin made seven saves in net.
The Dreadnaughts reached the finals by defeating Ann Arbor Skyline 16-6 in the semifinals early Saturday.
A quick 5-0 lead put Dexter ahead after one period and they cruised from there. They blew the game wide open by outscoring the Eagles 7-3 in the third for a 14-5 lead.
Varitek, M. Sterlitz, and Sayler scored three goals each to lead the offense. Blodgett and S. Sterlitz scored two each, while Schaefer, Bartscht, and Ben Duncan one each. Blodgett and M. Sterlitz dished out four assists each. Golin made six saves in net for the Dreads.
The Dreadnaughts will be a #1 seed at the Regional at Birmingham Groves next weekend with a trip to the state finals on the line.
