Powered by a pair of All-State finishes, the Dexter boys’ cross country team came home with a third-place finish at the Division 1 State Finals at MIS in Brooklyn Saturday, November 3.
The Dreadnaughts continued to improve throughout the season as they chased top-ranked Chelsea at the SEC Jamboree’s.
Dexter appeared to reach the top of their game the last couple of weeks of the season by defeating the Bulldogs at the SEC Finals and showed they could compete with some of the best in Division 1 at the Gabriel Richard Invite where they bet 2nd ranked Brighton and nearly knocked off top-ranked Plymouth.
The Dreads then finished third at the Division 1 Regional at Brighton to qualify for the state finals.
Saturday at MIS they showed they belonged with the big boys as they topped several teams ranked higher than them in the state rankings and earned the strong third-place finish.
Dexter entered the finals ranked 7th in D1 and finished with 154 points. Top-ranked Plymouth won the title with 122. A surprising Walled Lake Central team that was ranked 11th coming into the race, finished 2nd with 127.
Owen Huard and Nathan Larson had All-State finishes to pace the Dreads,
Huard finished 16th in 15:56 and Larson 22nd in 16:05 respectively.

Liam Buller ran a personal best time of 16:24 and finished 30th, while Nick McKenzie was 50th in 16:37.4 and Lucas Betzoldt 51st in 16:37.6.
Sam Melvin placed 75th in 16:56 and Seth Read 173rd in 18:09 rounded out the top seven for the Dreadnaughts.
