Dexter’s Mark Young Claims D2 Wrestling Regional Title





Dexter’s Mark Young will be making his first trip to the MHSAA wrestling state finals at Ford Field March 1 after claiming the Regional title at 215 pounds Saturday, February 16.

The Dreadnaught junior will take a 47-5 record into the Division 2 Finals where he will be one of four number one seeds in the 16 person bracket.

His junior season saw a huge improvement over a sophomore season where he finish 23-16 and dropped his first two matches in Regionals.

He opened as a number one seed at the Vicksburg Regional where he picked up a second period pin.



In the semifinals he defeated Dylan Norris of Eaton Rapids 5-1 to advance to the finals and locked up a state finals berth.

The championship match was a match-up between the two #1 seeds with Young facing off against Zeke Rohl of Stevensville-Lakeshore (30-6).

Young earned a second period pin to claim the Regional title and the Finals number one seed.

Dexter junior Jasper Howell also took part in the regional and came up short in a pair of matches at 152 and finished with a 33-18 record on the season.
