State-ranked Brighton proved too much for the Dexter girls’ basketball team Wednesday night as the Bulldogs ended the Dreadnaughts season 44-22 in the Division 1 district semifinals at Brighton.
Brighton dominated from the start with a 14-2 run in the first quarter. Kaila Simpson scored the lone basket for the Dreads in the first.
The second quarter wasn’t much better for the Dreadnaughts as Brighton outscored them 10-4 for a 24-6 halftime lead.
Dexter’s offense struggled all night as they added just five more points in the third as Brighton continued to pour it on with a 33-11 lead.
With the game decided the Dreadnaught offense finally got going in the fourth, doubling their point total with 11 points in the period, but it wasn’t enough.
Kyleigh Valentine led Dexter with nine points. Sydney Pnacek added five points, Simpson four, Kylee Niswonger and Maddi Valentine two each.
