It was expected to be a battle between two top five ranked teams, and it was just that when second-ranked Skyline and fourth-ranked Saline faced off for the D1 district title Saturday.
The teams had played close games during the regular season with Skyline winning 1-0 and the teams playing to a 1-1 draw and this game was no different.
The Hornets were stung when Skyline scored a goal just 1:30 into the game and it put them on their heels when the Eagles went on top 1-0 so quickly.
Saline looked shaken from the quick goal and the Eagles carried the play for the first 15 minutes, but the Saline defense kept the game 1-0.
The Hornets turned things round and began to put pressure Skyline, but were never able to find the net as the stubborn Skyline defense kept the Hornets off the board and ended Saline’s season with the 1-0 win.
Saline finished the season with a 14-2-3 overall record with both of its losses coming at the hands of Skyline.
