Nestled amidst the serene rural beauty of Manchester, Michigan, Freedom Winery has opened its doors at the historic Alber Orchard & Cider Mill. The new venture gives hard cider enthusiasts another stop for a fun summer day trip.

The husband-and-wife team of Mike and Therese Bossory bought Alber Orchard & Cider Mill in 1999, diligently cultivating over 100 varieties of apples, many of which are heirloom varieties. They are dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Alber family, who ran the cider mill for five generations, and it is evident in every aspect of their operation. The newly opened Freedom Winery, housed in a meticulously refurbished barn dating back to 1850, is a vital part of this ongoing story.

Located in the bucolic countryside of 13011 Bethel Church Rd., Manchester, MI, Freedom Winery offers visitors various craft hard ciders made on the premises. The tasting room is open from Thursday to Saturday, 1 PM to 8 PM, through August. Starting in the fall, the winery will extend its hours, opening every day except Monday, from noon to 6 PM.

The hard ciders offered at Freedom Winery are crafted from apples grown on the farm, ensuring the freshest and most authentic flavors. Among the ciders available are:

  • Old Glory Heirloom: A traditional apple cider balanced between sweet and dry.
  • Pear Sum Apple: A unique blend with a hint of pear.
  • Raspberry Rhapsody: A delightful cider infused with raspberry.

Most Saturdays through August will feature food trucks and live music, creating a vibrant atmosphere. As fall approaches, the orchard will offer its usual slate of activities, including hayrides, a pumpkin patch, apple picking, fresh cider, and donuts. Additional events such as line dancing, yoga, painting classes, and a fun run are also in the works, ensuring something for everyone.
