Chelsea Baseball Walk-off Leads to Sweep of Fowlerville
The Chelsea baseball team took advantage of a late Fowlerville mistake to take a 7-6 walk-off win in the opener of a doubleheader sweep of the Gladiators Friday night.
The Bulldogs looked in control early behind a pair of RBI singles by Chase Kemp to take a 5-1 lead, but Fowlerville would rally.
The Gladiators scored a pair of runs in the fifth to cut the lead to 5-3, but Kemp came through again with a RBI double in the bottom of the inning for a 6-3 Chelsea lead.
Fowlerville added a pair of runs in the sixth to cut the lead to 6-5. They put the first three runners on in the seventh to load the bases. The tying run scored on a hit batter, but the Bulldogs got out of the jam with a double play to end the threat with the score tied at six.
In the seventh, Joe Taylor singled with one out. He then stole second and the Gladiators intentionally walked Kemp putting two runners on. Fowlerville got the ground ball they needed, but an error on the double play attempt allowed Taylor to score and give the Bulldogs the walk-off win 7-6.
Kemp had big game at the plate going 3-3 with four RBI to lead the Bulldogs. Lucas Dawson and Logan Kilgore added hits for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs took advantage of eight Gladiator walks in the second game to take a 16-1 win and earn the sweep.
Chelsea put six runs on the board in the first and cruised from there in the rout.
Brendan Westcott had a big game with two hits and four RBI, while Trent Hill added a hit and four RBI. Dawson chipped in with a hit and two RBI, while Trevor Vosters had a hit and three runs scored. Hunter Sciackitano had a hit and scored four times, Jack Cavanaugh a hit and run scored, and Kilgore a hit for Chelsea.
