Dexter Baseball Sweeps Pair from Chelsea
The top spot in the SEC White was on the line Monday when Dexter traveled to Chelsea for a doubleheader.
Chelsea was undefeated in the conference and the Dreadnaughts were one game back heading and, but the Dreads left Chelsea on top of the standings after a sweep of the Bulldogs.
Dexter came out on top 8-2 in the opener.
The Dreadnaughts jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first with Joey Tessmer driving in a run with a single and Evan Krolewski an RBI double. Krolewski would score on a wild pitch for the third run.
Chelsea would get one back in the second, but a RBI single by Cam Rosen and a bases loaded walk made it 5-1 Dreads in the third.
The Dexter lead would grow to 7-1 in the fifth with a RBI single by Krolewski and 8-1 in the seventh with a home run to left by Krolewski.
Chelsea opened the seventh with three straight singles with Lucas Dawson driving in a run to make it 8-2, but Shay Ohtonen struck out three straight to end the game for Dexter.
Krolewski went 3-3 with three RBI and the home run to lead Dexter. Tessmer finished with two hits and an RBI, Rosen a hit and RBI, and Braeden Fuson and Wyatt Novara a hit and run scored each.
Chase Kemp and Trent Hill each had a hit and run scored for Chelsea, while Lucas Dunn added a hit.
Rosen struck out seven to earn the win for Dexter.
Dexter once again jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second game.
Nathan Deleruyelle doubled in a run and Davis Bennett knocked a two-run single to make it 3-0 in the second.
Chelsea got one back in the bottom of the second after a walk and a hit batter put two runners on. The Bulldogs pulled off a double steal with Dawson stealing home to cut the lead to 3-1.
The key to the game was the Bulldogs could not come through in the clutch when needed. Chelsea could not take advantage of nine walks and three hit batters by Dexter pitchers. They had two runners on in the third and fourth innings but could not score to keep it 3-1.
Chelsea loaded the bases in the fifth with two walks and a hit batter with nobody out. A walk forced in a run with one out to make it 3-2, but Ethan Hochendoner got a strike out and pop out for Dexter to end the threat.
With on out in the bottom of the sixth the Bulldogs once again loaded the bases with a pair of walks and a hit batter. Brennan Parachek entered the game on the mound with a runner on and struggled with control walking and hitting the first two batters he face to load the bases. Parachek would settle down and strike out the next two batter he face to end the inning and the game was called due to darkness after six innings.
Tessmer and Krolewski each had two hits to lead Dexter. Rosen and Parachek each added a hit and run scored.
Ohtonen earned the win for Dexter on the mound striking out one.
Dawson and Dunn had the only two hits for the Bulldogs. Dawson took the loss striking out four.
Dexter not sits on top of the SEC White with a 7-1 record in the conference. Tecumseh is right behind at 7-2 and Chelsea sits at 6-2.
The each other in a huge single game at Dexter Wednesday. The Bulldogs will be looking to climb back into a tie for the SEC White lead and the Dreadnaughts will be hoping to knock Chelsea two games back in the standings.
