Dexter Girls' Tennis Beats Canton in Opener


The season opener for the Dexter girls' tennis team came down to the final match of the day and the #4 doubles team of Maria DeMerrell and Sefina Patterson pulled out a three set win to give the Dreadnaughts a 5-4 win over Canton Tuesday.

The Dreads and Canton were tied at four matches each with the four doubles match left in play. DeMerrell and Patterson had split their first two sets 6-1 and 4-6 setting up a deciding third set.

DeMerrell and Patterson pulled out a tight 6-4 win over the Canton team to give the Dreadnaughts a 5-4 win.

Singles wins went to Lindsey Wiczorek at one singles 6-2, 6-1 and Emma Hodder at three singles 6-3, 6-2.

Doubles wins went to the one doubles team of Sarah Penrose/Chloe Sprague 6-3, 6-2 and the two doubles team of Amy Johansen/Charlotte Bruderly.

The Dreadnaughts return to action Thursday when they host Ann Arbor Huron.
