Dexter Baseball Off to Slow Start

Late inning struggles have been an issue for the Dexter baseball team so far this season as the Dreadnaughts have lost a pair of seventh inning leads while starting the season with a 1-3-1 record.

Dexter opened with a 4-3 win over Ann Arbor Father Gabriel Richard.

The Dreadnaughts led 3-1 after four, but Richard tied the game with a pair of runs in the sixth.

Dexter loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the sixth and Nathan Deleruyelle plated the go ahead run with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-3 after six.

Joey Tessemer came on in relief in the seventh and put the Irish down in order for the save.

Ethan Hochendoner earned the win in relief for Dexter.

Andrew Basso led the Dreadnaughts with a hit and two RBI, while Deleruyelle had a hit and the game winning RBI. Braeden Fuson and Hochendoner each had a hit and run scored and Wyatt Novara a hit for Dexter.

Dexter then took a tie and a loss to Hartland in a non-league doubleheader.

Hartland rolled to a 13-1 win in the opener.

Tessmer drove in the only Dreadnaughts run with a single in the third to give Dexter a 1-0 lead, but the Eagles answered with nine in the bottom of the inning to blow the game open.

Fuson had a hit and run scored and Cole Arnedt the Dreads other hit in the game.

Dexter carried a 4-2 lead into the last inning of the second game, but five walks by Dexter pitchers allowed Hartland to tie the game and it ended in a 4-4 tie.

Fuson led the offense with two hits including a triple and two RBI. Tessmer added two hits and a RBI, Novara two hits and a run scored, and Arnedt a hit and RBI.

Dexter then dropped a doubleheader to Saline Friday.

The Dreadnaughts again carried a lead into the seventh but could not hold on. Dexter built a 6-2 lead over the Hornets only to have Saline score five times in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 7-6 win.

Evan Krolewski gave Dexter an early 5-0 lead with a three-run homer in the third, but Saline began to chip away at the lead.

Saline cut the lead to 5-2 when Arnedt had a RBI double in the sixth to make it 6-2 setting up the Hornets rally in the seventh.

Tessmer had two hits and two runs scored, while Payton Hendricks added a hit and RBI for the Dreads.

Dexter took a 3-2 lead in the second inning of the nightcap, but the Hornets andswered with three in the bottom of the inning and held on for the 7-3 five inning win.

Tessmer had a double and two RBI, while Cam Rosen had a double and RBI. Arnedt and Fuson each had a hit and run scored and Andrew Basso one hit.
