Obituary: Richard "Dick" A. Rider

Richard "Dick" A. Rider, age 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 3, 1937, in Howell, Michigan, the son of Lester E. and Gladys M. (Seim) Rider. Beloved husband of 61 years to Marilyn A. (Howell). Father of Stephen (Brenda) of Caledonia, David (Holly) of Illinois, Bradley (Eve) of Petoskey, and Phil (Lin) of Dexter. Also survived by 13 grandchildren, 6 great (and one on the way) grandchildren, and sisters Margaret Bechler of Howell and Mary Huff of Fowlerville. Dick had a long career as a chief engineer in the auto industry working with Chevrolet, AMC, and Chrysler. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, camping, and salmon fishing. Other interests included golf, radio control aircraft, and kite flying, was an avid reader and lifelong learner, and problem solver. Mostly he treasured spending time with his wife, children, and their families. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 17, at 12:00 pm from the Dexter United Methodist Church in Dexter, MI. A receiving of friends and family will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the church, prior to the service. Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Howell for the family.
