Dexter Softball Pounds Jackson in Sweep


The Dexter  softball team showed fans that the football team isn't the only Dreadnaughts team that can put a lot of points on the board as the Dreads rolled to a 17-0, 24-0 sweep of Jackson Monday.

The Dreadnaughts offense pounded out 31 hits in the doubleheader, while the pitchers allowed just three hits, including a no-hitter by Paige Sayler in the second game.

Dexter got things rolling in the first game with a nine run first inning and never looked back. 

Jenna Wagunschutz led the hitting attack with two hits and four RBI, while Livvy Mellifont had two hits and three RBI.

Brenna Cassidy added two hits and two RBI, Sam Sutton a hit and two RBI, Sayler and Kylee Niswonger a hit and RBI, Maddy Thompson and Lillie Robeson a hit and run scored each. 

Cassidy allowed three hits and struck out eight for the win in the circle for Dexter.

The Dreadnaughts put 13 runs on the board in the second and six in the third on their way to the 24-0 rout of the Vikings in the nightcap.

Sayler struck out five in the three inning no-hitter in the second game of the doubleheader.

Sutton smacked a pair of home runs and drove in six runs, while Mellifont added a home run and five RBI for the Dreads.

Niswonger finished with four hits and scored four runs and Thomspon two hits and four RBI. Emma Sortor and Ella Mitchell had two hits and two RBI each, Camryn Chase and Cassidy two hits and an RBI each, and Wagenschutz a hit and three runs scored for the Dexter offense that pounded out 20 hits. 

Dexter improves to 4-2 overall and 4-0 in the SEC White. They host Saline in a SEC crossover Wednesday weather permitting.
