Dreadnaughts Take Down Bulldogs in Soccer Showdown

The weather was more like a late March game instead of late April snow coming down and freezing temps when Dexter and Chelsea met on the pitch for a girls soccer game Tuesday night.

The frigid temps and slippery field caused some footing issues at times, but the teams toughed it out and Dexter came away with a 3-1 win over the previously undefeated Bulldogs.

The weather did not slow the teams in the first half as fans got to see some great soccer action with both sides getting several quality chances to score. Chelsea's Klara Kuebler and Dexter's Braedy Wineman were sharp in net for both squads in the first half.

Dexter when on top when CeCe Palazzolo found the net for the Dreadnaughts at the 29 minute mark of the first half. Palazzolo took a shot that was blocked by Chelsea and it bounced back to her and she drilled it in with her left foot to put the Dreads on top 1-0.

The score remained 1-0 until the second half when the Dreads converted a corner kick for a goal.

Avery Newton fired in the corner that was headed by Aidan McConnell toward the front of the net. Cadi Murphy was there to drill it home for a 2-0 Dexter lead with 25 minutes left in the game.

Chelsea would break through with 15 minutes following a direct kick a loose ball was picked up by Kate Krugh who drilled it home to cut the lead to 2-1.

The Bulldogs would not get many more scoring chances the rest of the way and with 5:03 remain McConnell headed home a corner kick to put Dexter up 3-1 and seal the win for the Dreadnaughts.

Dexter improved to 2-2-1 overall and 2-1 in the SEC White while the Bulldogs fell for the first time this season, dropping to 3-1-1 overall and 1-1 in the SEC White.
