Road work for Webster Township

Scully Road in Webster Township will see improvements made to it in the coming months.

At its April 20 meeting, the Webster Township Board approved a work agreement with the Washtenaw County Road Commission that includes basically all of Scully Road, except for the private road section.

Webster Township is expected to devote $598,198 in funding to the projects to go along with some matching funds from the county.

One thing to note for this budget plan is that because of COVID there were few major road projects done last year in the township, so a good portion of the nearly $600,000 comes from last year’s budget, which was carried over into the 2021 plan. Some matching funds have been carried over as well.

The township did see a part of Huron River Drive repaired and dust control applied to the dirt roads, but other than those two things, it was a quiet 2020 for road work in Webster.

Here is the list of proposed projects for 2021:

Dust control with three solid applications of brine at $47,423.

Work on Scully Road, from Gregory Road to North Territorial Road, at a cost of $98,100. This will include tree cutting, ditching, roadside berm removal, shaping the existing surface, application of 3,000 tons of limestone with associated dust control and project restoration.

In talking about Scully, some on the township board referenced the need for improvements because of areas of pot holes and “country curbs,” which prevents good water drainage off of the road.

The next part of Scully expected to see work will be from North Territorial to Valentine Road, which will see heavy brushing, tree cutting, ditching, culvert installation, roadside berm removal, shaping of the existing surface and applying 5,350 tons of limestone with dust control and project restoration. It’s estimated to cost $208,700.

And then, Scully from Valentine to Walsh Road, which will have similar tasks performed, including culvert installation and 1,950 tons of limestone applied. It will cost $97,800.

Northfield Church Road, from Maple to Jennings, will also have similar things done to it like Scully, but it will have 3,800 tons of limestone applied at a cost of $132,400.

Finally, Merrill Road, from Barker to the Livingston County line, will again have the same type of work, but it will see 2,450 tons of limestone applied at a cost $78,300.
