The Dexter softball team made it six straight wins with a doubleheader sweep of Saline Friday, April 23.

The Dreadnaughts took the opener 1-0 behind the pitching of Sam Sutton and the bat of Livvy Mellifont.

Sutton tossed a ho-hitter and struck out nine for the win in the circle for the Dreadnaughts. She did not walk anyone, and the Hornets lone runner came on an error the first batter of the game.

While Sutton was unhittable on the mound, the Dreads bats were silenced as well by Saline’s Elaina Walker.

Dexter could muster just one hit in the game, but it was a big one as Livvy Mellifont launched a home run to centerfield in the bottom of the first and that is all Dexter would need behind Sutton for the 1-0 win.

The second game was much different then the first as the teams combined for 28 hits in the Dreadnaughts 10-7 win.

Dexter jumped out to a 10-1 after four innings but had to hold on as the Hornets rallied for three in the fifth and two in the seventh.

Paige Sayler slammed the door on the Saline rally in the seventh with a ground out and strike out to end the game.

Sayler struck out nine for the win in the circle for the Dreads.

Kylee Niswonger, Emma Sortor, and Camryn Chase had three hits and an RBI each to lead the Dreads offense.

Mellifont added two hits and three RBI, Sutton two hits including a home run and an RBI, Maddy Thompson two hits and an RBI, Hannah Marik and Ella Mitchell a hit and RBI each.

Dexter improved to 6-2 overall and 5-0 in the SEC White.
