The Dexter Farmers’ Market begins its new season with a new manager. Samantha Rofloc has taken over the reins at the popular summer spot in downtown Dexter.

Samantha began her new position on April 26, less than a week from the Market’s opening day of May 1. A newcomer to the Dexter area, she is on the fast track for getting to know her new home, which she really enjoys.

“The social aspect of the market is one of my favorite parts in the community, just seeing everybody come together and enjoy the town, showing up and supporting their local small farms,” says Samantha.

Samantha and her husband John have relocated to the area from Loveland, CO, to assist John’s aunt, Julie Frost, with her transition into retirement. Julie has owned and operated the Frosty Apple Orchard on Walsh Road for 40 years.

A love for agriculture is deeply rooted in Samantha’s psyche. As a kid growing up in California, she was a regular at the local Market. “I went to a farmers market every single Sunday with my mom in our little small town where I grew up,” she says.

As an adult living in Loveland, CO, the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park, Samantha took a position as a special events coordinator, which involved her with the local farmers’ Market. It felt like coming home.

“The Farmers Market was my favorite part of my position in Loveland,” she explains. “I got really close with the vendors out there. I loved the freshness, the community aspect, speaking to all the vendors, getting to know them and their lives.”

When the need arose, Samantha stepped into the Market’s manager role for a year until the move to Michigan came two months ago.

While she is still learning her way around Dexter and how to use her palm as a state map, Samantha is clear on her initial steps with the Market.

“First, I really want to find the sense of community within the community, integrating myself and getting to know everybody in town and see what the City of Dexter is, where it came from and watch it grow,” she says.

Opening Day for the Dexter Farmers’ Market will be Saturday, May 1, 2021. The Market is located at 3233 Alpine St. and will be open on Saturdays from 8 am – 1 pm and Tuesdays from 2 – 6 pm.
