Dexter Softball Splits Doubleheader with Bedford
The Dexter softball team split a SEC doubleheader with Bedford Wednesday taking the first game 10-0 and dropping the second 11-9 in six innings.
The second game saw Dexter fall behind 11-0, but rallied to cut the lead to 11-9. The Dreadnaughts had runners on second and third with one out and a chance to tie or take the lead when lightning was seen and the game was paused. The rule is a half hour delay when lightning is seen and after the delay it would have been to dark to play so the game was called after six innings.
Camryn Chase had a big game with three hits and two RBI, while Lillie Robeson had three hits and one RBI.
Jenna Wagenschutz chipped in with two hits and three RBI and Hannah Marsik one hit and two RBI. Kylee Niswonger had two hits and two runs scored Paige Sayler a hit and RBI, Brenna Cassidy and Ella Mitchell both with one hit.
The Dreadnaughts took the all important opener 10-0.
In SEC softball crossover games, the first game of the doubleheader is the contest that counts in the final league standings.
Sam Sutton was dominating on the mound for the Dreadnaughts striking out seven and allowing just three hits in the shutout win.
Emma Sortor opened the second with a double and scored on an RBI single by Robeson to make it 1-0 Dreads.
A dropped third strike started a four run rally for Dexter in the fourth. Sayler doubled to drive in a run and with two outs Wagenschutz doubled in a pair and Niswonger drove in one with a single to make it 5-0 Dexter.
Run scoring singles by Niswonger and Sutton helped spark a three run rally in the sixth to make it 9-0 and Maddy Thompson had an RBI single in the seventh to make the final 10-0.
Niswonger and Suttone each finished with two hits and two RBI. Cassidy, Sayler, and Robeson had two hits and an RBI each, Wagenschutz a hit and two RBI, Thompson a hit and RBI, Livvy Mellifont, Sortor and Chase one hit each.
Dexter improved to 7-5 overall and and 6-2 in the SEC White.
