The Dexter softball team picked up a pair of wins at the Salem Invitational Saturday.
The Dreadnaughts defeated Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard and Wyandotte Roosevelt and a third game with Ann Arbor Pioneer was called a no contest as the conditions of the pitcher’s mound were off and it could not be corrected.
The Dreadnaughts defeated Gabriel Richard/Greenhills 4-1 to start the day after the no-contest in the opener against Pioneer.
The game was scoreless until the third when an RBI groundout by Livvy Mellifont put Dexter up 1-0.
Jenna Wagenschutz and Sam Sutton followed with two-out singles and both came home a RBI single by Brenna Cassidy to make it 3-0 after three.
Paige Sayler led off the fourth with a solo shot to push the lead to 4-0.
Richard would get one back in the sixth, but that would be all as the Dreadnaughts held on for the win.
Wagenschutz finished with two hits and a run scored, while Cassidy had a hit and two RBI. Sutton and Ella Mitchell each had a hit and run scored.
Sayler earned the win on the mound striking out nine and allowing just two hits.
The Dreadnaughts pounded out 11 hits and routed Roosevelt 15-0 in the last game of the day.
Dexter scored five in the first and four in the third to take an 11-0 lead and cruised.
Sutton allowed just two hits and struck out five for the win and was 3-3 batting with a homerun and three RBI to lead the offense.
Mellifont finished with two hits and three RBI, while Hannah Marsik was 2-2 with two RBI. Wagenschutz and Emma Sortor had a hit and two RBI, Sayler and Camryn Chase a hit and RBI each.
Dexter improved to 10-5 overall. They travel to Chelsea for a huge SEC White doubleheader Monday.
