Dexter-Ann Arbor Run planned for later this summer
The planners of the Dexter–Ann Arbor Run received approvals from the city of Dexter and Scio Township for this popular annual event.
The Ann Arbor Track Club requested road closure permits from both communities for this year’s half-marathon, which is planned for Aug. 15.
This is its 47th year.
In his report to the Dexter City Council, Justin Breyer, Interim City Manager and City Clerk, said the event is proposed to be held that day starting at 8:30 a.m. at Creekside Intermediate School.
The race is proposed to travel: Baker Rd. at Creekside Intermediate School → Shield Rd. → Parker Rd. → Dexter-Chelsea Rd. → Main St. → Central St. → Huron River Dr. towards Ann Arbor.
The event planners asked Scio permission for the closure of Huron River Drive from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. that day.
Breyer said the event organizers have submitted a COVID Safety Plan containing additional information, including the number of participants, face mask requirements, mask and social distancing enforcement, sanitization, and other differences from previous events.
Dexter City Councilmember Zach Michels said he appreciated the detail put into the COVID plan and based on that he thought it would be a low-risk event for the city.
The city of Ann Arbor has also approved the road closures within their jurisdiction.
