Scio Township planning to build another pathway

A path is planned to go in along Parkland Plaza that will help serve both the businesses and residents in that area off of Jackson Road in Scio Township.

To get the project moving along toward construction, the Scio Township Board approved a contract with the Fonson Company in the amount of $329,562. A contingency budget of $30,000 is also part of this contract and it’s for unforeseen circumstances or additional sidewalk connecting to the Co-op housing on the south end.

Fonson is based in Brighton.

The pathway is planned for the west side of Parkland Plaza, from just south of Park Road to Eagle Pointe Drive.

According to township consultant, OHM Advisors, this project includes the construction of a 6-foot wide concrete sidewalk that extends from approximately 200 feet south of Park Road to the south side of Eagle Pointe Drive. OHM said the design complies with the most recent applicable sections of the Americans with Disabilities Act and requirements of the Washtenaw County Road Commission.

This pathway decision comes right after the approval of the construction contract for the next phase of the Zeeb Road Pathway, which was approved in April.

“It is exciting to be moving forward with these segments of the pathway network,” Scio Township Supervisor Will Hathaway said. “We hope to have more pedestrian pathway projects to announce later this summer.”

Both pathways are expected to be built this summer.
