Letter to the Editor: Elect Daniel Alabre and Melanie Szawara for Dexter School Board

Dear Editor:

I am a Dexter resident, parent, and mother.

I am concerned about our Dexter Schools' future if we allow the hateful and extreme policies being enacted across this country to make their way to Dexter. I have seen completely misleading information shared on social media already this campaign season about our own schools, and I fear it will only get worse.

We need kind, calm, and thoughtful leaders to sit on our Board of Education this fall. This is why our family is supporting Daniel Alabre and Melanie Szawara for Dexter school board trustees this fall, and we encourage you to do the same. They are thoughtful, responsive, and most of all patient.

Their opponents' claims of transparency and non-partisanship are hard to trust when both have social media posts that are full of hateful rhetoric against marginalized groups and disinformation around science.

Please Elect Daniel and Melanie this fall so we can continue to support our students and teachers with empathy and kindness.
