Saline Lacrosse Slips by Orchard Lake St Mary

The Saline boys' lacrosse team improved to 2-0 on the season after an exciting 12-11 win over Orchard Lake St. Mary Prep Saturday afternoon.

The game was close throughout as the Hornets held off OLSM until the very end.

Saline took a quick lead when the Hornets took the opening face off and raced down the field and Quinn Brophy scored just eight seconds into the game.

OLSM answered with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead, but Gavin Klaasen found the net to tie it at 2-2. St. Mary's closed out the quarter with a pair of goals to take a 4-2 lead after one.

The Hornets opened the second with three straight goals as Eli Routt scored and Owen Miller netted a pair of goals to give the Hornets a 5-4 lead.

OLSM tied it up at five, but Brendon Shinavier scored with just 0.9 left in the half to give Saline a 6-5 halftime lead.

Like the first half the Hornets won the opening faceoff of the second half and raced down field and this time Klaasen found the net 17 seconds into the third for a 7-5 Saline lead. 

St. Mary's cut it to 7-6, but Routt and Devin Sears scored for Saline to give the Hornets their biggest lead of the game at 9-6.

OLSM tallied twice to cut the lead to 9-8 before CJ Robison netted a shot for a 10-8 Saline lead. 

After St. Mary's cut the lead to one once again Klaasen netted his third of the game to give Saline an 11-9 lead after three quarters.

OLSM battled back and tied the game at 11-11 setting up an exciting finish.

With 1:31 left Routt found the net for his third of the game to give the Hornets a 12-11 lead. 

After a timeout the Eaglets would have one last chance. With 20 seconds left the launched a shot, but senior goaltender Chris Peterson was there for the save and the Hornets were able to run out the clock and hold on for the win.
