Saline: Notice of security ordinance

CITY OF SALINE

SECURITY ORDINANCE

NOTICE

INSTALLATION AND INSPECTION OF FIRE DETECTOR SYSTEMS, SECURITY LIGHTING IN PARKING AREAS, AND SECURITY DEVICES ON ALL EXTERIOR WINDOWS AND DOORS, FOR ALL INDIVIDUAL DWELLING AND/OR ROOMING UNITS WHICH SHARE A COMMON WALL AND/OR ROOF WITH ANY OTHER INDIVIDUAL DWELLING AND/OR ROOMING UNIT, AND FOR LEASED DWELLING UNITS.

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE, that pursuant to the provisions of the Ordinances of the City of Saline, all individual dwelling and/or rooming units which share a common wall and/or roof with any other individual dwelling and/or rooming unit, and all leased dwelling and/or rooming units, shall be equipped with the following fire detector systems, minimum security devices, and security lighting in parking areas:

FIRE DETECTOR SYSTEMS:

Smoke or fire detectors, or an automatic fire alarm system, the type, number and location of which has been approved by the Building Inspector. Batteries in battery operated detectors shall be replaced at least once each year by the owner of the dwelling and/or rooming unit.

MINIMUM SECURITY DEVICES ON ALL EXTERIOR WINDOWS AND DOORS:

All exterior windows and doors, and window and door assemblies and hardware shall be maintained in good working condition. Locks on all exterior windows and doors of the above described dwelling units shall tightly secure.

SECURITY LIGHTING IN PARKING AREAS:

  1. Parking areas constructed or established after April 1, 1986, shall be illuminated from one-half
  2. Illumination of such area must be designed and maintained so that it does not unnecessarily shine,

hour after sunset to one-half hour before sunrise to an illumination level at any unobstructed point

of not less than one (1) foot candle. Facilities for such illumination must be shown on plans

submitted for obtaining the required permit.

PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE, that the owner of any premises subject to the above requirements shall be responsible for making, or causing to be made, annually during the month of September, an inspection of such fire detector systems, minimum security devices on all exterior windows and doors, and security lighting in parking areas, to determine that they are in good working order and to make such repairs as are necessary to bring such systems up to the required standards.

PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE, that the property owner is no longer required to file certification of inspection and compliance, however, if an inspection of the above described premises is made by the City at any given time, and violations of City Ordinances are found, citations will be issued to the property owner.
