At age 84 passed away peacefully at the University of Michigan Hospital surrounded by family on July 16, 2018. Herbert was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama with 12 siblings, and is preceded in death by his parents James and Rosie Pearson, and his 12 siblings, and leaves to survive a sister-in-law Jeraline Pearson.
Herbert was his class president of A.H. Parker High School of Birmingham, AL. He then went on to serve three years with the Army (82nd Airborne) as a decorated Paratrooper. Upon an honorable discharge, he relocated to Detroit, MI and met the love of his life Alberta Henry of Bridgeport, AL. In matrimony, they relocated to Chelsea and had six children: Bernice Houk of Stockbridge, Constance Pearson- Ramirez of Ann Arbor, Tricia Ann Pearson (deceased), Gloria Pearson of Ypsilanti, Herbert Pearson (Norma) of Ann Arbor, and James Pearson of Chelsea. He also had a special relational son Carl Simpson.
Herbert began his career as a US Postal Service letter carrier, and he retired from the Brake Engineering Department of Chrysler Proving Grounds.
He contributed to his community by being involved in the Lions Club, the Cassidy Lake Correctional Center and other civic organizations. Herbert’s hobbies involved building three personal homes, a storage building, a replica of an old gas station, and Mopar cars.
Herbert leaves a legacy of good will and directional determination, as well as loving kindness through his loved ones, community, friends and acquaintances.
Visitation was at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home on Thursday, July 19, 2018 with a Gathering of Family and Friends on Friday, July 20, 2018. A private burial will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith In Action.
