CHELSEA, MICH– Chelsea Area Festivals and Events (CAFE) is pleased to announce the kick off of Sounds & Sights on Thursday Nights, presented by Rick Taylor Real Estate – Reinhart Realtors. Celebrating its 15th season, the free summer concert series runs every Thursday, June 6 to August 15, 2019 from 6:30 till 8:30 p.m.
Professional artists perform at ten stages located throughout downtown Chelsea featuring music, dance, comedy, family entertainment and art. Starting with the stage at Palmer Commons, spectators can enjoy jazz music performed by Fun on the Frets. Across the street, at Katie’s Korner on the library lawn, the Chelsea District Library presentsKorner Stage: #TBT Comedy Showcasewith Kevin Kramis followed by headliner David Dyer. Dyer is a stand-up comedian and contributing writer for NBC’s The Late Night Show with Jimmy Fallon.
Heading north, the South Streetstage features Cash is King, a Johnny Cash tribute band that is known to get everyone dancing in the street. Indie folk band, Beach Daisy, returns to East Middle Street with an authentic and unique style full of rich harmonies. Americana duo Dave Boutette & Kristi Lynn Davisperform folk-inspired harmonies at the Sylvan Courtyard.
Chelsea Chalk Artreturns with free“How to Chalk” seminars each week beneath the Clocktower. For the opening night, the focus islearning to draw bugs. The adjacent stage, located at the Glazier building showcases the Americana band, The Shelter Dogs.
Around the corner, at the Clocktower Gazebo, The Big Band Theoryperforms jazz and swing music. Senior seating is available at this stage and the South St. stage thanks to sponsors Silver Maples of Chelsea, Jackie Schiller and Suzanne Morrison.
Sounds & Sights on Thursday Nights provides something for the whole family including the Colors the Clownat the Clocktower Courtyard and balloon animals created by 3 Generations Entertainmentin the Main Street Alley.
SculptureWalk Chelseawill be celebrating its 10th year with 13 sculptures showcased in prominent locations throughout historic downtown Chelsea. CAFE has revitalized this outdoor art project as part of the visual arts component of its mission with community support from the City of Chelsea, Chelsea Downtown Development Authority, Chelsea District Library, Chelsea Area of Chamber of Commerce, generous sponsors and a mini-grant from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs Minigrant Program administered by The Arts Alliance. Visitors are welcome to take a self-guided walking tour of the year-long creative placemaking project.
Chelsea Area Festivals & Events is a not-for-profit organization that enriches Chelsea, and the surrounding communities, by promoting the presentation of and participation in quality performing and visual arts throughout the year.
