Kayaker Recovered From Huron River

According to Derrick Jackson, the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Director of Community Engagement, 36 year old Robin Early was last seen putting her kayak into the river near Portage Lake dam in Dexter around 3pm on Thursday May 31st. When she did not return home later that day her family contacted 911 to report her as missing.

Upon investigation deputies located her vehicle but at that time were unable to locate her or her kayak. The Underwater Search and Rescue Team was activated to search the river near the area and a short time later they were able to locate her kayak.

On the evening of Friday, June 1 Early was found dead in the Huron River a mile and a half from where she disappeared.

Jackson reported that Early was not wearing a life jacket, though one was found in her kayak.

According to a report by Nathan Clark of Mlive, Early’s family started a GoFundMe page that says she is a married mother of two and loved kayaking and fishing on the river. By last Monday more than $20,000 in donations has been raised to cover funeral expenses and future expenses for her family.
