The Dreadnaughts celebrated Senior Night for six players February 16 and came away with a 53-21 win over Ann Arbor Skyline.
The Dreads celebrated the accomplishments of six seniors that have been on the varsity squad for three years. Taylor Olson, Anna Love, Cayla Schlaff, Shelbea James, Amanda Fileccia, and Hannah Wing all played their last home game for the Dreadnaughts.
Dexter coach Mike Bavineau payed tribute to them by starting the game with all six players on the floor at the same time and taking a technical foul for to many players on the court. After the start, Bavineau rotated the six seniors into the game after each stopped ball for the first half of the opening quarter.
Like many of the other games before the technical did not hurt the Dreadnaughts as they jumped out to a 14-5 lead over Skyline after one and had the lead grow to 25-9 at halftime.
Dexter put the game away with a 16-10 run in the third to take a commanding 41-19 lead.
All six seniors scored in the game, led by Shelbea James with 14. Wing finished with nine, Olson and Fileccia seven each, Schlaff four, and Love, who is trying to come back from an injury, two points. Sammi Corcoran and Stella Kill added four points, and Kristen Young two.
The Dreadnaughts pulled out a hard fought 37-28 win over Ypsilanti February 19.
The win and a Chelsea loss gave Dexter the outright SEC White title.
Dexter took a 7-2 lead after one quarter, but could not shake the Grizzlies as they were honoring their seniors.
The Dreads lead 17-10 at halftime, but Ypsilanti battled back in the third to cut the Dexter lead to 29-26 after three. The defense clamped down in the third, holding Ypsi. to just two points as the Dreads pulled away for the win.
Schlaff led Dexter with nine points, while Olson added eight. James finished with seven points, Wing six, Corcoran three, Fileccia and Young two each.
The Dreads improved to 18-1 overall. They will wrap up the regular season at Chelsea Friday. They open district play at Ann Arbor Huron against Pinckney Monday, February 29 at 6:00 PM. State ranked Huron awaits the winner of the game in the semifinals Wednesday, March 2 at 7:00 PM
