Another big upset was not in the cards for the Dexter girls’ basketball team Tuesday night as the Dreadnaughts fell to a strong Hartland team 45-24.
Hartland had an intimidating size advantage, led by 6’4 center Whitney Sollom, but the Dreadnaughts were not scared and started quickly.
Dexter took a 5-1 lead thanks to a triple and a two-point basket by Ryleigh Bavineau. Hartland tied the game at five, but a pair of baskets by Kylee Niswonger and Kylie Cabana gave the Dreads an 11-8 lead. The Eagles tied the game at 11 after one with a late triple.
Sammi Corcoran gave the Dreads a 13-11 lead early in the second, but it was all Hartland after that.
The Eagles closed the half on a 10-0 run to take a 21-13 lead into the break.
Four more points by Hartland to start the third forced a timeout by Dexter coach Mike Bavineau.
The Eagle lead would grow to 34-18 after three and Hartland would cruise in the fourth as the Dreads did not have enough fire power to rally.
Ryleigh Bavineau led Dexter with eight points. Niswonger and Nicole Tuzinowski scored five each, and Corcoran four.
