All it took was a quick jolt to wake the sleeping giant Friday night as the Manchester girls’ soccer team bounced back from an early deficit to beat Lenawee Christian 5-1 to claim the sixth straight Division 4 District title for the Lady Dutchmen.
The Dutch carried most of the action for the better part of the first half, but it was LCA who struck first. A crossing pass was knocked down in front of the Manchester net and picked up by LCA and driven into the corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.
The lead lasted just 17 seconds however as the opening kickoff was fed deep into LCA territory and Rayna Edwards beat the goaltender to the ball and knocked it past her into the net to tie it at one.
The Dutch had some nice in close passing, setting up Liz Mrocko for a scramble tap-in as she fell over the goaltender to make it 2-1 at the half.
Just over halfway through the second half, Natalie Bargardi made a quick turn just outside the box and drilled in a shot from 25 yards out for a 3-1 Dutch lead.
Ten minutes later, Bargardi took a pass in front of the net and found the corner to make it 4-1 and with 2:30 left in the game Edwards finished the scoring with her second of the game.
The Dutchmen advance to the Lansing Christian Regional, where they will play the winner of the Lansing Christian/ Jackson Lumen Christi game being played Saturday night. The Regional game will be Tuesday night at 7:00 PM.
