Larry Jay Dicks, age 79, of Dexter, MI, passed away on November 24, 2025, at his home, surrounded by love. He was born on December 9, 1945, in Saline, MI, the first-born son of the late Luther and Betty (Reddeman) Dicks. He graduated from Saline High School and began a 40 year career with Ford Motor Company as a diecast die maker.
Larry was very mechanically inclined and he loved tearing apart cars and working on them, even putting a few back together again! He would fabricate parts, weld, and paint in his beloved shop. He enjoyed auto racing and motorsports, and loved travelling around the country camping and attending races with family and friends, even flying to France for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a 75th birthday gift. He was interested in trains and steam engines. On June 2, 2002, he married Linda McKeachie in Ann Arbor. When the weather got cold, they looked forward to heading south and spending winters in Florida, always working on putting together a puzzle.
In addition to his wife, Linda, Larry is survived by his children, Erica Such (Jonathan) Basler of Clinton, MI, Katherine (Scott) Finkbeiner of Saline, MI, and Kale (Emily) Dicks of White Lake, MI; three grandchildren, Emily Finkbeiner of Bay Port, MI, Andrew Finkbeiner, and Allison Finkbeiner, both of Saline, MI; sister-in-law, Sharon Dicks, and nephew Michael Dicks, both of Tecumseh, MI; and finally, his faithful canine companion, Kevin.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Carl Dicks, and a nephew, Shawn Macomber.
At his request, cremation has taken place. The family celebrated his life on Friday, November 28, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Clinton Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Arbor Hospice, to whom the family is very grateful for their wonderful care.
