The following alert was sent out by our neighbors to the northeast:
DON’T FALL PREY TO THE LATEST FAKE AMAZON SCAM
Northfield Police warn our community members of a Larceny by Trick scheme
If you receive a call from someone identifying themselves as an Amazon representative or Amazon Cyber Security agent and they inform you that charges were attempted against your account –
DO NOT GIVE THE CALLER ACCESS TO YOUR BANK ACCOUNT
DO NOT LET THE CALLER TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR COMPUTER
DO NOT PAY OFF ANY “OVER-PAYMENT” WITH GIFT CARDS
If you have made a purchase through pay pal or your credit card and your statement reflects a discrepancy with the charges, you can dispute the charges at that time with the credit company.
AGAIN — NEVER PAY ANYONE WITH GIFT CARDS!! Gift cards are for gifts, they were not meant to be a means of payment. On Line transactions should be paid with credit cards, allowing rebates, refunds and corrections on purchases – to be credited .
NEVER give out information on your financial accounts to anyone contacting you by phone.
ENJOY YOUR THANKSGIVING AND BLACK FRIDAY!
