Loren D. Munro

Peoria, Illinois

Passed away at age 89, on September 6, 2018 in Peoria, IL. He was born May 28, 1929 the son of Edwin Ross and Veva (Myers) Munro in Chelsea, MI. Loren was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Marie (Malott) in July, 2013, after 62 years of marriage.

Loren and Joyce met at Chelsea High School and married September 8, 1951. He graduated from the University of Michigan in February 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering before moving to Illinois with Joyce to work and raise their family.

Over the next 40 years he worked as a mechanical engineer for Caterpillar. His work took him all over the world fueling his love of travel. He and Joyce lived in Geneva, Switzerland and Perth, Australia. After retiring Loren and Joyce continued their travels, exploring North America in their RV and spending time with their family and loved ones.

In addition to travel, Loren had a passion for football, books, and genealogy. He will fondly be remembered as someone who never said no to a sip of wine or a bite of chocolate. Most of all, Loren will forever be remembered for his generosity and unwavering dedication to his family and loved ones who meant the world to him.

Loren will be dearly missed by daughters Joan Eddy of Grapevine, TX and Carol (Mike) Sweeney of Minneapolis, MN; sons Thomas of Minneapolis, MN and Ronald (Jill) of Wooster, OH; five grandchildren Michael (Bekah) Eddy, Matthew Eddy, Heather (Andrew) Acuna, and Holly Eddy; four great-grandchildren Morgan Eddy, James Acuna, Harper Eddy, and Holden Eddy; sister Karen (John) Vournakis of Charleston, SC; nephew Chris (Vanessa) Vournakis; and several cousins.

The family received friends at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home in Chelsea, MI on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, followed by a graveside service at Oak Grove Cemetery, Chelsea.
