The annual Manchester Christmas in the Village is on.

What started in a community member’s home nearly 30-years ago with baked goods, homemade crafts, and a few members of the community decorating their homes for the holidays, has grown this year to have its most sponsors ever.

“This is an event that really brings Manchester’s Business Community together; so much so that for the second year in a row it has been the driving factor behind bringing new members to join the chamber,” said Jennifer Wojtowicz, owner of Proper Property Services and a member of the Manchester Area Chamber of Commerce. “And, the success of last year’s Christmas in the Village is a testament to that excitement that has been brought back to our business community, just by taking a look at that lengthy sponsor list.”

Organized by the Manchester Area Chamber of Commerce, the event will have several new aspects this year.

Santa will be stationed at the Alber Mill Porch for visits on Saturday Dec 1st 3-4pm, and Sat 12/8, 12/15, and 12/22 11am-1pm. The Shoppes of Alber Mill will host many of the activities.

The Festival of Trees will take place in the alley next to the Comerica building. Residents can vote on their favorite tree Sat Dec 1st 9am-3pm by placing non-perishable donations from Manchester CRC’s Wish List under their favorite tree. The tree with the most “presents” under it will be the winner.

Following this year’s theme of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, hunters will be able to pick up the instructions starting at 9am on Dec 1 at Two Black Sheep. They will make a stop for each line of the poem. Once they have collected the entire poem, they will turn in their fully completed poem by 4pm and a winner will be drawn for a cash prize.

One new event will be the Reindeer Trail Run/Walk, hosted by the Manchester Cross Country team.  The route will take festival goers through the  Leonard Preserve with sign-In at  9am-1030am on Dec 1 at the Gazebo. Routes will be 5k, 10k, and 15k, and is chipped timed. With the start time 11 am. Signup can be found online

Brochures for the event will be released this week.
