The football season came to a close for the Manchester Flying Dutchmen last Thursday, they defeated Jonesville 40-24 in their crossover match.
After the game Manchester head coach Wes Gall announced that senior running back and defensive back Paul Derheim, senior offensive lineman and linebacker Kurtis Blumenauer, and sophomore defensive back Nick Phillips had earned all-conference honors.
Derheim was the all-purpose yard leader for the Flying Dutchmen, accounting for 711-yards on the ground (6.6 yards per carry), 250-yards through the air (13.2 yards per catch), and 241-yards on kick returns (17.2 yards per return). He scored 12 touchdowns on the ground and one through the air while leading the Manchester secondary as well.
Blumenauer was honored as an offensive lineman and played both ways, playing at linebacker this year for the first time since middle school out of necessity for more size at the position. Offensively or defensively you could expect to see Blumenauer springing a block for a run on offense or being around the ball on defense. He led the defense with 61 total tackles, 56 solo and 10 assisted, with two tackles for loss.
Phillips was the third all conference player, receiving the award after a solid year in the defensive secondary for Manchester. Phillips, only a sophomore, played tight coverage in the secondary all year long and like Blumenauer, had a knack for being around the ball. He finished second on the team with 50.5 tackles, 49 solo and three assisted, with three tackles for loss.
Senior offensive and defensive lineman Skylar Zink and senior kicker Jacob Dodak also earned honorable mention all-conference.
Derheim, Blumenauer, and Phillips were honored Friday night at the Cascades/Big 8 Crossover Championship game along with the other all conference winners, at halftime they were announced and recognized at midfield.
