Last week Manchester Schools sent out a letter to parents, students, faculty, and community members formally notifying them of the new name of the former Manchester Middle School.
The building, which will be the new third through sixth grade building in the existing middle school, will be named Riverside Intermediate School.
Teachers from those grades put in ideas for new names for the old middle school building. After three were chosen at random the current second through fifth grade students were sent a survey electronically. The final three names were Riverside Intermediate School, Deer Run Intermediate School, and Edgewater Intermediate School
Riverside won with 42% of the vote, Deer Run finished with 35%, and Edgewater finished with 23%.
Gary Puhl, the Principal of Riverside Intermediate, said the next step is to have the building formally recognized by the State of Michigan Department of Education.
