The Manchester Lady Dutch Volleyball team won their opening district match up against the Grass Lake Warriors on Oct. 30.

The back to back Cascades conference champions swept the Warriors in both of their matchups in the regular season and their district matchup yielded a similar result.

Manchester, 25-11, 25-8, 25-10, came out hot and didn’t let up. Each set showed why Manchester has won the league two years running and is ranked No. 5 in division three. In the first set, sophomore Kayla Ridenour set up senior Avery Collins for the set-winning kill.

In the second set, Manchester jumped out to a 9-2 lead, with senior McKenna Good with a block to force a Warrior timeout.

The Warriors took one more timeout trailing 20-7 before Manchester junior Kayla Engel finished the set with an ace to win the second set 25-8.

Manchester cruised in their last set capped off by a kill from senior Jayden Humphrey.

Engel led the team with 11 aces. Three players, Collins (11), Humphrey (26), and Engel (17) finished with double-digit kills. Ridenour led the team with 51 assists.

Manchester advances to the semi-finals to play the host, Columbia Central. Manchester won their lone matchup at a tournament earlier this season. Semi-finals will take place at Columbia Central on 11/1 at 5:30 p.m.
