The Manchester Lady Dutch Volleyball team got their season underway last weekend, traveling to Addison for the Addison Invitational.

In pool play, the Lady Dutch went undefeated, beating Madison (25 – 23, 25 – 23), Star International Academy (25 -7, 25 – 15), and Reading (25 – 11, 25-10).

In bracket play, the Dutch went 1-1, handling East Jackson (25 – 7, 25 – 12), before falling in a rematch to Madison (27- 29, 14 – 25).

“We started strong, then couldn’t handle their tipping,” said Lady Dutch head coach Trisca Beasley. “They were afraid to hit against our blocks and we weren’t adjusting.  Thankfully, we have a re-match on Wednesday and I expect a different outcome!”

The Lady Dutch are coming off of a successful season, reaching the first round of regionals last year. They only lost two seniors in Rylee Cole and Lauren Sprau while returning many players with quality experience including seniors Jayden Humphrey, Stephanie Messman, Anna Walz, Hannah Woods, and Avery Collins. Junior Kayla Engel was another important piece for the Lady Dutch who returns. Sophomore Kayla Ridenour will look to improve on a strong sophomore year as well.

On Wednesday, Aug. 22 the Lady Dutch travel to Napoleon High School for a quad competition.
