A break in scheduling and some bad weather gave the Chelsea baseball team nearly a whole week off and the rustiness showed as they hosted Mattawan in a doubleheader Saturday and was roughed up in 17-0 and 6-3 losses.
Mattawan scored five times in the first and 10 more in the fifth in the opener that lasted just five innings.
Chelsea collected just two hits in the game and the Bulldog pitchers allowed seven walks.
Thomas Steele and Kyle Knight had the only hits for the Bulldogs.
Mattawan took a 4-0 lead after four in the second game, but Chelsea got back in it with an RBI triple by Nick Christian and an RBI double by Hunter Lay to cut the lead to 4-3.
Two more runs by Mattawan in the fifth made it 6-3 and the Bulldogs would get no closer.
Christian finished with two hits and an RBI, while Lay had a hit and RBI. Carson Robinson had a hit and run scored, while Parker Shaw had an RBI and run scored.
