Synopsis of Action of the Dexter Township Board of Trustees

Regular Board Meeting November 20, 2018

Called to order at 7:00 PM

Members Present: Supervisor Rider, Clerk Ceo, Treasurer Brushaber, Trustees Compton, Drolett Gajewski and Mesko.

Absent: None

Also Present: Zach Michels, Director of Planning and Zoning.

Supervisor’s Remarks: Supervisor Rider advised Chelsea District Library board packet was available, it had arrived too late to include in the Township Board packets.  DAFD Administrative Board approved the purchase of 2 new Pierce engines, with a cost of $1.1 million.  DAFD will put $500,000 down and finance the balance over 7 years. At the December 20th DAFD meeting, the DAFD Board is expected to approve the 2019 budget at $2,169,000 which is a 2.39% increase over 2018.

Call to the Public:  Presentation by Julie Schumaker, Co-Chair of Dexter Community Fund an endowment fund to help the Dexter Community in Arts & Culture, Community Improvement, Environment, Health and Wellness, Human Services, Senior Services, and Youth & Education.

Oral Reports: Trustee Compton, Broadband Committee Chair, updated the Board on the Broadband committee initiatives.  Trustee Compton and Trustee Mesko updated the Board on the meeting with the Fire Chief discussing the International Fire Code. At this time the Board approved a motion that Dexter Township Board does not want to adopt the 2015 International Fire Code and suspend paying Board Members to attend the Fire Code informational meetings. Supervisor Rider updated the Board on the Township Hall remodel indicating the Township Hall remodel is almost complete.

The Board took the following action: Approved the Agenda for November 20, 2018 Board meeting; Approved the minutes from the October 16, 2018 Regular Board Meeting, the October 29, 2018 Special Board of Trustees Meeting, the November 8, 2018 Special Board of Trustees Meeting and November 8, 2018 Closed Session of the Board of Trustees with minor corrections; Approved Resolution 18-524, a resolution to Set an Alternate date for the December 2018, December 2019 and July 2019 Board of Review; Approved to continue the Second Street Road Project in the Spring of 2019, to authorize the Road Commission to hold the funds for the project that Dexter Township has paid to date, and to authorize the Township Supervisor to send a letter to residents who own property in the area of the project explaining the delay and the Board’s decision, and to include the Road Commission letter.

Board also discussed: Openings on the following committees beginning January 1, 2019; Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, Board of Review, Western Washtenaw Recycle Authority, Chelsea Library Board which will be posted on the Township website and recommendations presented to the Board at the December 18, 2018 meeting. Deadline to submit letters of interest to Supervisor Rider is December 7, 2018.

Board also authorized payment of: General Fund bills totaling $144,969.16, Fire Fund bills totaling $60,883.70, Police Fund bills totaling $41,137.17, Agency Fund bills totaling $10,652.50 and gross monthly payroll of $39,903.40.
